Suspension Problems Make Driving Your Automobile Difficult

The suspension system of your car, truck, or SUV is designed to support the body of your vehicle and help you control the automobile. Crucial control systems, such as the steering system and the wheels are part of your vehicle’s suspension. If your vehicle is having suspension problems, it is more difficult to control. At Auto Correct Car Care, we would recommend having your suspension checked if you are experiencing any of the following issues.

Bumpy, Uncomfortable Ride

Your vehicle’s suspension is designed to make sure that you have a comfortable ride. If your ride has become bumpy and uncomfortable, this could be a sign that you need to have your shocks and struts replaced because they have worn down.

Feeling Momentum Motion

Another sign that you need new struts and shocks is feeling the momentum motion that they prevent. In other words, your shocks and struts prevent your vehicle from leaning to the side when you turn corners, from sitting at a squat when you accelerate, and from lurching forward when you apply the brakes.  Additionally, this lurching motion when stopping shifts more weight to your front brake pads and can cause them to wear faster than normal.

Low-Seated Corner

Take a look at your automobile when it is parked. Are all four corners even, or is one corner sitting lower than the other corners? If you answered yes, that one corner is sitting lower than the other corners, you have broken a suspension spring. Another possible sign that you have a broken suspension spring is a clunking noise when you drive over bumps.

Oil on the Shocks

The shock absorbers will tell you when they are too old by leaking. If you reach up behind your rear wheels and touch the shocks and they feel oily, it’s time to replace them because they are leaking their internal fluid.

Problems Steering

As we mentioned above, your steering system is part of your vehicle’s suspension. If the steering becomes a problem, you could have an issue with the suspension system. This can include difficulty getting your automobile to respond to your steering commands, groaning or moaning sounds when you make turns, or your power steering feels as if it has manual steering.

Pulling to the Side

Finally, wheel alignment is also part of your vehicle’s suspension system. If your wheels are not aligned properly, your vehicle will pull to the side. Your suspension is designed to go straight unless you turn the steering wheel. If your vehicle is not going straight without correction, there is a problem.
