It seems like prices for everything are increasing right now, and that includes gasoline and diesel fuel. At Auto Correct Car Care, we are here to help where we can, so here are some tips from AAA that help your vehicle save gas. That’s right! These tips boost your vehicle’s fuel economy.
Tip 1: Consolidate Your Driving and Drive Less
One of the best things you can do to save gasoline or diesel fuel is to consolidate your trips. In other words, don’t go around town making a ton of stops. Rather, plan your stops so that you can combine as many as possible to avoid additional driving. Plenty of shopping centers and strip malls have everything from grocery stores to banks in them. Stop at one, park your car, and walk. Also, plan your trips to take the straightest route. This will decrease the back and forth driving we sometimes do, adding extra mileage to our route. Try to plan your errands for one trip and prevent multiple outings to and from home.
Tip 2: Use Your Cruise Control
While you are driving, use your cruise control whenever you can. Your foot pressure changes on the accelerator without you realizing it, and this reduces your vehicle’s fuel economy. The cruise control keeps your vehicle at a steady speed, so you should use it whenever possible. Of course, avoid using it in the rain or snow.
Tip 3: Keep the Speed Down
Driving the speed limit or under helps conserve fuel. The faster you go the more your engine burns fuel to produce the power it needs to keep up with the high speeds. Take it easy on your automobile and drive conservatively. Keep your speed down when you can to conserve the fuel in the tank.
Tip 4: Avoid Excess Idling
If you can avoid excess idling, this will also help conserve the fuel in your tank. If you can avoid driving in traffic without having to go too far out of your way, do so. If you are stuck in a line or waiting for someone, turn off your engine if it’s going to be idling for longer than one minute. Idling for longer than a minute wastes gasoline. You will use less gasoline to restart your car.
Tip 5: Keep Your Vehicle Maintained
Preventative maintenance ensures that your car, truck, or SUV is always running as efficiently as possible. Review the recommended maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual and consult your mechanic to make sure that your vehicle is getting the best gas mileage it can.
